The legendary 80s band emerged in 1976 but quickly became a force to be reckoned with by the time they released their self-titled debut album in 1979. The effort broke into the Billboard charts, ranking at a cool 59 and eventually selling over one million copies. The band would later release Cosmic Thing, their best selling album to date. The 1989 record, which spawned their biggest hits “Love Shack,” “Roam,” “Cosmic Thing,” and more, sold over four million copies and peaked at number 4 on the Billboard 200.
The quirky band known for their elaborate futuristic costumes were responsible for the hits “Whip It,” “Girl U Want,” “Uncontrollable Urge,” and “Puppet Boy.” The band was one of the first groups ever to include humor into their concept, often providing fans with tongue in cheek and deadpan humor. Devo has released a total of nine studio albums with Freedom of Choice being their most popular work to date. The band had been nominated at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times.
