The Ohio natives have been rocking it in the music scene since they formed at the turn of the millennium, and the energy is only getting stronger! This run comes in celebration of their 12th studio album, ‘Ohio Players,’ released on April 5 through Easy Eye Sound. This brand new record is jam packed with bluesy swagger and features several special guests. “What we wanted to accomplish with this record was make something that was fun. And something that most bands 20 years into their career don’t make, which is an approachable, fun record that is also cool,” says drummer Patrick Carney. Blues rock duo The Black Keys have unveiled their new, 12th studio album, ‘Ohio Players,’ ahead of the INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS trek this fall. The group is made up of Dan Auerbach (guitarist/vocalist) and Patrick Carney (drummer). With this mixtape, the dynamic duo delivers a soulful catalog. As you can expect from the four-time Grammy-winning group, it’s jam packed with bluesy swagger and features several special guests. The record opener “This Is Nowhere” starts with a slick groove, “Don’t Let Me Go” almost sounds like it emerged from 1976, and “I Forgot to Be Your Lover” is a rehashed version of a hit originally written by Memphis soul icon William Bell. “We’d never worked harder to make a record. It’s never taken us this long to make an album. We took our time and did it right,” says Dan Auerbach about ‘Ohio Players.’ “What we wanted to accomplish with this record was make something that was fun. And something that most bands 20 years into their career don’t make, which is an approachable, fun record that is also cool,” added Patrick Carney.
First inspired by the melodies of juke joint rockers like Junior Kimbrough, the Black Keys have continued to evolve their award-winning sound. From 2004’s ‘Rubber Factory’ that was full of garagey roar to 2022’s ‘Dropout Boogie’ that was as much rollicking as it was smooth, these fellas have always kept it interesting. The rockers debuted ‘The Big Come Up’ in 2002 and built on its success over the years by sticking their foot into heady psychedelic territory. In 2010, the duo dropped their biggest album to date, the platinum-selling ‘Brothers,’ producing fan favorites like "Tighten Up," "Howlin' for You," and "Next Girl."
Joining The Black Keys at the Shoreline Amphitheatre is the acclaimed indie folk band The Head and The Heart. Over the past 15 years, the six-piece has carved up a sound that rises from Americana, country-rock, and classic Beatlesque pop influences. The Seattle native group is signed to Warner Bros. Records and have dropped five albums so far. In 2022, The Head and The Heart treated fans to ‘Every Shade of Blue,’ so expect to be jamming out to their newest material this fall. Commenting on the new record, the band said that it "conveys a spectrum of emotions and how we live with them."
